The Ministry of Health (MoH) organised an event to mark World Respiratory Care Week at Muscat Grand Mall on Monday. The week is celebrated every year towards the end of October.

The ministry, which was represented by the Directorate General of Specialized Medical Care’s Respiratory Care Section, held the event to recognise therapists in respiratory care.

The event was held under the patronage of H E Dr Darweesh Saif al Maharbi, Undersecretary for Administrative and Financial Affairs in MoH, in the presence of senior officials, a press release stated. The celebration aimed to encourage, involve and develop the profession in the community throughout the sultanate’s governorates.

The event highlighted the importance of respiratory care and its role in society as well as identified its role in the intensive care unit.

At the end of the celebration, the patron of the event honoured respiratory care therapists working in the sultanate. On the sidelines of the event, an awareness exhibition too was held which focused on treatment methods used in the field.

This is the third year the sultanate is holding an event to recognise respiratory therapy as it is new in the country. It was first established at The Royal Hospital in 1990 with only one respiratory therapist. This number soon increased to 61 specialists and technicians.
